CBS has officially announced the order of a spinoff series from the popular show Young Sheldon, focusing on the characters of Georgie and Mandy.
Set to air during the 2024-2025 broadcast season, the untitled series will bring back Montana Jordan and Emily Osment to reprise their roles, taking viewers on a journey as the two characters navigate family life in Texas.
Unlike its predecessor, which adopted a single-camera format, this new series will be a multi-camera comedy. News of the spinoff has been circulating since January and has now been confirmed by CBS.
The brainchild of Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland, the trio behind both Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory, this new venture promises to deliver the same relatable, heartwarming storytelling that has captivated audiences over the years.
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, expressed her excitement for the new series, stating,
It has been a privilege to spend the last seven years with Sheldon and the Cooper family and now this wonderful journey will continue with Georgie and Mandy.
The spinoff announcement coincides with the airing of the seventh and final season of Young Sheldon, which kicked off on Feb. 15 after production delays caused by the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes.
Reflecting on the legacy of the Cooper family, Lorre, Molaro, and Holland stated, “From ‘The Big Bang Theory’ to ‘Young Sheldon,’ the world of the Cooper family has been incredibly special to us. We’re very excited to continue their stories through the eyes of Georgie and Mandy.”
As executive producers, Lorre, Molaro, and Holland will shepherd the spinoff series, which is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.
For Lorre, this new series ensures his continued presence at CBS, marking over two decades of collaboration with the network. With a string of successful shows including The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Mom, and now Young Sheldon and its spinoff, Lorre’s influence in the world of television remains profound.
