CEO of DC Studios James Gunn has officially unveiled the newest addition to his DC Universe (DCU) reboot, announcing that Milly Alcock, known for her role as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon, will be donning the iconic cape as Supergirl.
Gunn welcomed Alcock to the DCU with excitement and anticipation for the forthcoming superhero film. He confirmed the casting decision on his social media accounts, writing, “Welcome to the DCU, Milly Alcock!”
Milly Alcock’s selection comes after a competitive casting process that reportedly saw her triumph over contenders Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly for the coveted Supergirl role.
While details about Alcock’s involvement in specific DCU projects remain undisclosed, it has been noted that she is expected to appear in a DCU film before taking on the titular character in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
The film is based on the 2022 comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, presenting a unique portrayal of Supergirl that delves into a woman who has “gone through it all.” The film is set to be written by Ana Nogueira.
The star-studded cast of the DCU reboot already includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Superman. The reboot is set to kick off with Superman: Legacy, which is scheduled to begin filming in March, with a highly anticipated release date on July 11, 2025.
As fans eagerly await the revitalization of the DCU under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Milly Alcock’s casting as Supergirl adds another layer of excitement and anticipation to the evolving superhero cinematic universe.
