In a surprising turn of events, fashion designer and social media activist Khadijah Shah finds herself at the center of a legal whirlwind. Arrested by Quetta police on charges of murder and attempted murder, the case took an unexpected twist when the Punjab government withdrew her detention order on Monday.
Khadijah Shah was apprehended on Monday afternoon by Quetta police, with the anti-terrorism court subsequently granting a two-day transit remand to the police.
The arrest followed an application filed by the police in the ATC, citing a murder and attempted murder case registered against Shah at Quetta’s Bijli Road police station. The police stated that they had obtained the suspect’s warrant from the ATC of Quetta, and the ATC directed them to produce her in the relevant court within two days.
However, the legal landscape took a sudden shift when the Punjab government opted to withdraw Khadijah Shah’s detention order later in the day. This decision came in response to a petition filed by Shah’s husband, Jahanzeb Amin, who contested the detention.
The Lahore High Court, which had previously ordered Khadijah Shah to appear before them, also directed the police to produce Shah at 2:30 pm.
