The accolades keep pouring in for the team behind In Flames, as the film secures yet another prestigious honor — the Best Competition Film award at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah.
The Yusr Award for the best competition film was presented to the film, written and directed by Zarrar Kahn, marking a significant achievement at the festival’s third edition.
The competition jury, led by Australian director Baz Luhrmann, bestowed the coveted Best Competition Film award upon In Flames, recognizing its outstanding contribution to cinema.
Although absent from the film festival to receive the award in person, Zarrar Kahn expressed his joy in a video shared on social media. Taking to Instagram, the elated filmmaker conveyed his excitement, expressing his heartfelt wish to be present at the festival. “I just found out that we’ve won the main prize at the Red Sea Film Festival. I wish I was there,” Kahn shared in the video message.
In Flames has been on a winning streak, having previously garnered acclaim at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, and the Busan International Film Festival.
Notably, In Flames is Pakistan’s official submission for the Academy Awards, with the psychological thriller vying for the International Feature Oscar.
Having made its debut at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight earlier this year, In Flames unfolds its gripping narrative against the backdrop of Karachi. The film explores the upheaval in the lives of a mother and daughter after the demise of their family’s patriarch, as they confront tangible and spectral entities from their history. Their bond becomes a beacon of hope as they confront dark forces looming over them.
The film features a stellar cast including Ramesha Nawal, Bakhtawar Mazhar, Mohammad Ali Hashmi, Adnan Shah Tipu, and Omar Javaid. Zarrar Kahn serves as both the writer and director, with Anam Abbas as the producer and Shant Joshi as the executive producer
