Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, is fighting with two health crises simultaneously. Eight new cases of the deadly Congo virus have been reported, and among them, five are doctors.
Furthermore, an outbreak of an unknown pathogen has occurred in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a government hospital, posing a new health challenge.
The Integrated Health Monitoring and Emergency Response Unit of the Balochistan Health Department confirmed that sixteen medical staff members in the Civil Sandeman Hospital’s ICU have been affected by the outbreak of this mysterious pathogen.
The affected individuals have been isolated and are receiving medical care in a separate ward.
The symptoms associated with this pathogen include a sudden onset of severe body pain, accompanied by a high fever, stiffness, and chills. Mild respiratory symptoms, decreased platelet count, and lymphopenia are also among the reported symptoms.
Officials have labeled this pathogen as highly contagious, raising concerns about its potential to spread within healthcare settings. Health directorate teams are actively working to control the situation, while laboratory testing is underway to identify and characterize the pathogen.
In response to these health crises, comprehensive arrangements have been made for prevention, testing, and containment.
Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking quick actions to relieve the spread of both the Congo virus and the unidentified pathogen in Quetta.
