London is set to host the first-ever stage adaptation of The Hunger Games. This production is based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling book series as well as the iconic Jennifer Lawrence-led blockbuster film franchise.
Renowned director Matthew Dunster, known for his work in productions such as Hangmen, is taking the helm, while acclaimed playwright Conor McPherson is adapting the captivating narrative for the live stage adaptation.
Set to make its grand entrance in London during the fall of 2024, the stage adaptation will be centered on the first book of Collins’ dystopian series. The story unfolds in a future where young tributes are selected through a brutal lottery system to participate in a televised battle royale, fighting to the death.
A press release teases the stage version as a “gripping tale of courage, defiance, and the unbreakable human spirit.”
Suzanne Collins herself expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating,
“I’m very excited to be collaborating with the amazing team of Conor McPherson and Matthew Dunster as they bring their dynamic and innovative interpretation of ‘The Hunger Games’ to the London stage.”
The Hunger Games on the stage is produced by Tristan Baker and Charlie Parsons for Runaway Entertainment, Oliver Royds for BOS Productions, and Isobel David, by arrangement with Lionsgate.
Suzanne Collins’ original Hunger Games novel was published back in 2008 and was followed by two sequels and four feature films that collectively earned an astonishing $3 billion at the global box office. Lionsgate has expanded the universe with a prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, starring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler, set to hit theaters on November 17.
