The federal government has sanctioned the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces nationwide to bolster security during Muharram.
A notification from the interior ministry indicates that the government has called for military deployment to uphold law and order throughout the month, which commenced on Sunday.
The notification details that the specifics of troop deployment, set to be implemented for an indefinite duration, will be coordinated with relevant authorities, including the governments of Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad.
Moreover, the notification mentions: “The date of de-requisitioning of said deployment will be decided subsequently after mutual consultation among all stakeholders.”
As of now, the federal government has not decided to suspend internet services during Muharram. Any such decision will be made in consultation with provincial authorities, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior.
