Heavy Monsoon Rains to Hit Pakistan This Week

Heavy monsoon rains are forecasted for the upper and central regions of Pakistan throughout the week.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are expected to reach the upper parts of the country starting from July 3.

Due to this weather system, rain with isolated heavy falls is predicted in several parts of Pakistan from July 2 to July 7.

Kashmir:

Rain, wind, and thunderstorms with occasional heavy to very heavy falls are expected in Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from July 2 to July 7, with intermittent breaks.

Punjab/Islamabad:

Rain, wind, and thunderstorms with occasional heavy to very heavy falls are forecasted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali from July 2 to July 7, with occasional breaks.

Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Layyah from July 4 to July 7.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa:

Rain, wind, and thunderstorms with occasional heavy to isolated very heavy falls are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan from July 3 to July 7, with occasional breaks.

Balochistan:

Mostly hot and humid weather is expected in most districts. Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in eastern parts of Balochistan (Khuzdar, Kalat, Zhob, Barkhan, Jaffarabad, and Naseerabad) from July 3 to July 7.

Sindh:

Mainly hot and very humid weather is expected in most districts. Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Mithi, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Sukkur, and Larkana from July 4 to July 7, with occasional breaks.

Gilgit-Baltistan:

Partly cloudy to cloudy weather is expected, with rainfall likely in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) during the week.

Possible Impacts and Advisories:

Torrential rains may cause flash floods in local streams of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Murree, Galyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Dir, Swat, Kashmir, and the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan from July 4 to July 7. Water flows in eastern rivers are likely to increase during this active monsoon period. Urban flooding is expected in Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Peshawar from July 4 to July 7. Landslides may disrupt roads in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Heavy downpours, windstorms, and lightning may affect daily routines and weak structures such as electric poles, billboards, and solar panels. Farmers are advised to manage their activities considering the weather forecast. Travelers and tourists are urged to exercise extra caution, plan their travel according to weather conditions, and avoid any hazardous situations during this wet spell.
