During an intensive summer heatwave in Washington, DC, a six-foot-tall wax statue of Abraham Lincoln underwent a dramatic transformation at Garrison Elementary School.
Created by artist Sandy Williams IV and supported by the non-profit organization CulturalDC, the statue began to melt as temperatures soared to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
As the heat intensified, the statue’s head detached, a leg broke away, and the chair beneath it sank into the softened ground.
Despite efforts to protect the artwork, the wax statue—designed to melt like a candle—could not endure the extreme heat. The incident garnered widespread attention, with photos and discussions going viral across the internet.
