LAHORE – Public Advised to Take Precautions as Heatwave to Prevail in Lahore and Punjab Plains
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has advised the public to take necessary precautions as a heatwave is expected to prevail in Lahore and the plains of Punjab on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the PMD, continental air is prevailing over most parts of Pakistan, while a shallow westerly wave is affecting the northern parts of the country.
Under these conditions, Lahore and the plains of Punjab will experience a heatwave with day temperatures rising 2-4°C above normal on Wednesday and Thursday. Gusty and dust-raising winds are anticipated in the southern districts, with partly cloudy weather likely in Murree, Galyat, and their surroundings.
In Lahore, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 43-45°C on Wednesday and 44-46°C on Thursday.
The past 24 hours have seen hot and dry conditions in Lahore and most parts of the province. Noorpur Thal, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bhakkar were the hottest locations in the province, recording a maximum temperature of 47°C. Okara, Kot Addu, Kasur, Karor (Layyah), and Jhang recorded maximum temperatures of 46°C.
In Lahore, the maximum temperature reached 44°C, with relative humidity recorded at 17 percent in the evening.
