Provincial Minister Nasir Hussain Shah announced on Thursday that a plan has been prepared to provide free electricity to consumers using up to 100 units.
Speaking to the media, Sindh’s Energy Minister revealed that the government will supply these 100 free power units through solar parks and mini-grid stations.
The Government of Sindh has allocated funds for solar energy and mini-grid stations in the budget. “Initially, the government is allocating five billion rupees for solar energy,” Shah stated.
He also mentioned a new scheme in the budget to offer solar panels at highly concessional prices. “Poor and middle-class families will be provided with 200,000 solar panels,” he said. “The government will cover 80 percent of the cost, with the remaining 20 percent to be paid by the people,” Nasir Shah explained.
“There are 500,000 houses in Sindh without power supply,” he added. “Solar parks and mini-grid stations will be installed in Karachi and other parts of Sindh,” the Energy Minister concluded.
