A district and sessions court in the federal capital acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in two cases related to the May 9 incident.
Judicial Magistrate Umar Bashir announced the verdict on the acquittal pleas filed by the former prime minister against the cases registered at Shehzad Town police station.
The judge ruled that the PTI founder had been cleared of the charges due to insufficient evidence in the cases.
Imran Khan’s lawyers, Mirza Asim Baig and Naeem Panjotha submitted the arguments in the cases. Baig argued that unauthorized persons had filed the cases against the PTI founder, and the prosecution failed to submit evidence in the cases where section 109 had been invoked against his client.
A day earlier, another court was scheduled to announce the verdict on the pleas filed by Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi against their conviction in the un-Islamic nikah case. However, Judge Shahrukh Arjumand did not announce the ruling after Khawar Maneka, the former husband of Bushra Bibi, expressed distrust in the judge.
