Today, May 28, Pakistan is observing the 26th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer with national zeal and fervor, commemorating the successful nuclear tests conducted on this day in 1998. These tests established Pakistan as the seventh nuclear nation in the world and the first Muslim state to possess nuclear arsenal capabilities for peaceful deterrence.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared a public holiday to honor the day that made Pakistan’s defense impregnable. In a series of messages, national leaders and military officials have congratulated the nation on this significant milestone.
Acting President Yousuf Raza Gillani, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the Services Chiefs have extended their felicitations to the nation. In his message, the Acting President reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful and stable world. He emphasized that Youm-e-Takbeer symbolizes the nation’s resilience and determination to maintain regional peace and stability. He highlighted that Pakistan, as a responsible nuclear state, firmly believes in the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a message on social media platform X, stated that Youm-e-Takbeer represents the collective effort of the entire nation to safeguard its integrity. He underscored that on this day, the nation resolved never to compromise on the country’s defense, regardless of external pressures. The Prime Minister also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan Army for their roles in making the country’s defense impregnable. Additionally, he acknowledged former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the scientists who initiated and continued Pakistan’s nuclear program.
The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the Services Chiefs have also extended their congratulations. In a statement, the ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relations) paid tribute to the unwavering dedication and selfless sacrifices of all those who contributed to this remarkable achievement.
They reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ resolve to defend the motherland, protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and ensure the nation’s security at all times and at any cost.
