The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) alert for snow-covered and glaciated areas of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to the Met Office, day temperatures are expected to be 04 to 06 degrees Celsius above normal levels in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan from May 21 to May 27.
The increase in air temperature may lead to enhanced snowmelt, coupled with the possibility of rain, wind, and thunderstorms at isolated places during this period. These atmospheric conditions heighten the risk of GLOF or flash floods in snow-covered and glaciated regions of the country.
