Following Pakistan’s decisive win over Ireland in the second T20I match in Dublin, Babar Azam has claimed the title of the most successful captain in the shortest format of the game.
The Green Shirts triumphed over Ireland by seven wickets with 3.1 overs to spare, leveling the three-match T20I series at 1-1. The series decider is set to take place in Dublin on May 14 (Tuesday), with both teams aiming for victory.
Babar Azam’s leadership in this match marked his 45th win as captain of Pakistan in T20Is, making him the most successful captain in T20I history. Babar has led Pakistan in 78 T20Is, surpassing Brian Masaba of Uganda, who secured 44 wins out of 56 T20I matches as captain.
Asghar Afghan of Afghanistan and England’s Eoin Morgan follow closely behind as the third and fourth most successful T20I captains, each with 42 wins. Afghan and Morgan have led their respective teams in 52 and 72 matches, showcasing their leadership prowess in the format.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi extended his congratulations to Babar Azam for this remarkable achievement and presented him with the team jersey after the second T20I. Additionally, left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was honored for reaching the milestone of taking 300 wickets in international matches.
