Fans of the beloved sitcom Community are eagerly anticipating the long-awaited movie, and creator Dan Harmon has provided an exciting update on its progress.
In a recent interview with Variety, Dan Harmon revealed that the script for the Community movie is nearly complete, bringing the project one step closer to fruition. Harmon responded to former Community star Donald Glover’s recent claim that the script was finished, clarifying that while it’s not quite there yet, they’re making significant progress.
Harmon humorously remarked, “Donald’s sources are so unreliable because the script is always ‘almost done.'” However, he confirmed that they are indeed closing in on the final draft, with Donald Glover being one of the first to hear the news.
Describing his writing process, Dan Harmon expressed his excitement for the project but admitted to experiencing some emotional moments along the way. He confessed to having “good, nervous breakdowns” and even shedding tears when reflecting on the show and its beloved characters.
The movie, set to air on NBCU’s Peacock streaming service, will be set on the campus of Greendale Community College, where the original series took place. Harmon expressed his enthusiasm for the project, assuring fans that it will be “awesome” and evoke nostalgia for the show’s early days.
Joining Dan Harmon in crafting the script is writer Andrew Guest, known for his work on Community and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The film will feature an ensemble cast of original Community stars, including Donald Glover, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Joel McHale, Ken Jeong, Danny Pudi, and Jim Rash.
The production of the Community movie will fulfill the series’ long-standing promise of “Six Seasons and a Movie,” a catchphrase that has become a rallying cry for fans over the years. The film’s announcement on Peacock was met with excitement, with negotiations described as “heavily competitive” to secure the rights.
As the script nears completion and production ramps up, fans can look forward to reuniting with the quirky characters and absurd situations that made “Community” a beloved cult classic.
Community originally aired on NBC for five seasons before concluding its run on Yahoo! Screen, and now, with the movie on the horizon, fans can relive the magic of Greendale once again, this time on Peacock.
