Renowned producer behind hit shows like American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, Nigel Lythgoe is facing another serious accusation of sexual assault, marking the third such claim against him in less than two months.
The latest complaint comes from a Jane Doe, who filed a lawsuit on February 17 alleging battery, gender violence, and emotional distress stemming from an incident in 2016. According to the lawsuit, the assault occurred during a purportedly short car ride with Nigel Lythgoe, which extended into a prolonged ordeal of sexual assault and battery. The plaintiff recounts feeling trapped and violated during the encounter, which has left lasting emotional trauma.
The incident allegedly took place after a chance meeting at a Beverly Hills hotel bar between Lythgoe, the plaintiff, her daughter, and two friends. The lawsuit describes a disturbing turn of events as Lythgoe’s driver chauffeured them through the hills against the expressed wishes of the plaintiff, while the assault unfolded inside the vehicle.
In the eight-page complaint, the Jane Doe is seeking unspecified damages for the distress and trauma inflicted upon her.
This accusation adds to a growing list of legal challenges Lythgoe is facing. Earlier suits include sexual assault allegations from former American Idol judge Paula Abdul and two separate Jane Does. Lythgoe stepped away from his role on the latest season of So You Think You Can Dance in January amid the mounting allegations.
Representatives for Lythgoe have yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the latest claims. However, Melissa Eubanks, one of Jane Doe’s lawyers, issued a statement expressing concern over the repeated allegations against Lythgoe. Eubanks commended the courage of her client and others who have come forward, emphasizing the importance of holding powerful figures accountable for their actions.
The legal team representing Paula Abdul in her own lawsuit against Nigel Lythgoe echoed similar sentiments, denouncing the alleged misconduct and emphasizing the need to address such behavior in the entertainment industry.
As the legal proceedings unfold, these accusations cast a shadow over Lythgoe’s reputation and raise broader questions about accountability and systemic issues within the entertainment business.
