Universal Pictures has announced plans for a new installment in the Jurassic World franchise, with David Leitch, the director behind Bullet Train, reportedly in discussions to helm the project. The film is scheduled for release on July 2, 2025.
David Koepp, renowned for his work as the original screenwriter of Jurassic Park and The Lost World, will be penning the script for this latest addition. The film will see Steven Spielberg returning as executive producer through his production company, Amblin Entertainment. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce, alongside David Leitch and Kelly McCormick through 87North.
Koepp boasts an impressive career spanning over three decades, with notable credits including Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, Death Becomes Her, Panic Room, and War of the Worlds.
This new film promises to embark on a fresh narrative journey within the longstanding franchise, which has captivated audiences for thirty years. While details remain scarce, it’s uncertain whether previous stars such as Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, or Jeff Goldblum will reprise their roles.
Overseeing the project for Universal are Sara Scott, Executive Vice President of Production Development, and Jacqueline Garell, Creative Executive of Production Development.
Since its inception with Spielberg’s iconic Jurassic Park in June 1993, the franchise has become a cinematic juggernaut, grossing over $6 billion worldwide across six films. The most recent installment, 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, soared past the $1 billion mark globally.
David Leitch’s impressive directorial resume includes hits like John Wick, Atomic Blonde, the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbes & Shaw, and Deadpool 2. His upcoming project, the action comedy The Fall Guy, starring Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling, is set for release on May 3.
