Former Interior Minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed found himself in legal trouble as he was arrested in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.
This arrest came after his bail petition was dismissed by the court in connection with a case registered at New Town Police Station. The arrest unfolded at the court premises, where Rawalpindi Police took Sheikh Rasheed into custody.
Sheikh Rasheed, who was granted bail in 11 cases, faced a setback as his bail was rejected in one specific case, leading to his arrest.
Furthermore, interim bail for Sheikh Rashid Shafiq was released but subsequently resulted in his arrest by the circuit court.
Amid these legal proceedings, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed condemned the incidents that took place on May 9, revealing his advisory role to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan regarding maintaining positive relations with the army.
In an exclusive interview on “Meray Sawal with Muneeb Farooq,” Sheikh Rasheed addressed his temporary disappearance from the political scene, citing his engagement in a 40-day spiritual retreat known as ‘Chilla.’
National Security Committee (NSC) Involvement
Sheikh Rasheed disclosed his participation in the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting, where discussions took place on cipher. He revealed that three individuals were negotiating with the army on behalf of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, and interestingly, all three later formed their own political parties.
Despite Imran Khan’s instructions against negotiating with the army, Sheikh Rasheed emphasized that non-political figures played a significant role in the events of May 9.
Expressing pride in identifying himself as a ‘spokesperson’ of the armed forces, Sheikh Rasheed highlighted the importance of avoiding public disputes with soldiers, reaffirming his commitment to a positive relationship between politicians and the military.
