New York City witnessed a blast from the past on Monday night as Lindsay Lohan, the original star of Mean Girls, made a surprise appearance at the premiere of the musical movie.
The event, graced by other key figures from the film, including writer-producer Tina Fey and actress Angourie Rice, who takes on Lohan’s iconic role as Cady Heron, was a nostalgic celebration of the 2004 comedy classic.
Lindsay Lohan looked “fetch” as joined forces with Tina Fey, reprising her role as Ms. Norbury, along with original cast members Daniel Franzese (Damian Hubbard) and Rajiv Surrendra (Kevin Gnapoor).
The pink carpet event buzzed with excitement as fans speculated whether any of them would make a cameo in the film.
Tina Fey teased about possible surprises, saying, “I couldn’t possibly say, but we do have some fun cameos.” Fey revealed that Ashley Park and Tim Meadows are part of the movie, along with some entertaining appearances by influencer friends. Fans eager to witness the surprises will have to catch the film when it hits theaters this Friday.
The star-studded premiere saw the attendance of additional “Mean Girls” cast and creative team members, including Reneé Rapp, Christopher Briney, Auli’i Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey, Avantika, Bebe Wood, Busy Philipps, Jon Hamm, Megan Thee Stallion, director of photography Bill Kirstein, choreographer Kyle Hanagami, and co-directors Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Payne.
Director Samantha Payne shared insights into translating Regina George, played by Reneé Rapp in the Broadway musical, from the stage to the screen. “We talked about how this is really a personalization of the role. On Broadway, it’s so different from the camera being right here,” Payne explained, emphasizing the challenge of making the character intimate and unique for the film audience. She expressed excitement for viewers to witness Rapp’s interpretation of the iconic queen bee.
