In a surprising twist at the star-studded wedding of Bollywood icon Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira Khan, fitness trainer Nupur Shikare took center stage as the groom but became the unintentional star of online memes and jokes due to his unconventional choice of attire – a black tank top and gym shorts.
The private ceremony, held at the luxurious Taj Lands End in Mumbai, witnessed Nupur’s unique entrance, jogging about eight kilometers to the venue accompanied by his groomsmen or “gym bros.”
However, it wasn’t the jog that caught the internet’s attention; it was Nupur signing the Nikah papers in his sporty outfit while Ira looked stunning in a glamorous ensemble.
The video quickly went viral, with social media flooded with humorous comments and memes poking fun at Nupur’s casual wedding attire. Netizens couldn’t resist making jokes such as “Gym se seedha mandap par aa gaye jiju” and “Bro was so excited to get married that he forgot to wear sherwani 😂😂.”
While some criticized the groom’s choice, others hailed him as a trendsetter, suggesting that casual wear at weddings could be an option for those who can’t afford expensive attire.
Despite the initial online frenzy, Nupur eventually changed into a more traditional blue bandhgala suit for the official ceremony.
The couple opted for an intimate registration surrounded by close friends and family, with Aamir Khan’s ex-wife, Kiran Rao, present to join the celebration. Aamir, adorned in a cream-colored sherwani, radiated paternal pride, posing with the family, including his sons Junaid Khan and Azad.
While the official registration took place on Wednesday, reports indicate a grand wedding in Udaipur on January 5, followed by a lavish Mumbai reception. Pre-wedding celebrations included a mehndi function hosted by Salman Khan at his residence.
Speaking about the groom, Aamir Khan expressed happiness over Ira’s choice, stating,
The boy she [Ira] has chosen for herself, his pet name is Popeye…he [Nupur] stood by her side and supported her. He has supported her emotionally. I am happy that she has selected him.
The engagement of Ira and Nupur took place in November 2022, with Nupur proposing to Ira in Italy. Known for his role as a celebrity fitness trainer, Nupur has been a constant pillar of support for Ira, especially during her struggles with depression.
