Hollywood actor Steven Yeun is no longer associated with Marvel’s upcoming film Thunderbolts. While Marvel never officially confirmed Yeun’s casting, news of his potential involvement surfaced in February.
The circumstances surrounding Yeun’s departure remain undisclosed, leaving fans and industry insiders speculating whether the role will be rethought or recast.
Thunderbolts, based on Marvel comics featuring a group of antiheroes, is set to interweave storylines from Ant-Man and the Wasp, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and the upcoming Captain America installment, titled New World Order. Plot details for the film have been kept tightly under wraps.
Production on Thunderbolts came to a halt in May due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, and filming has yet to commence following the conclusion of last year’s dual strikes involving writers and actors.
Directed by Jake Schreier, known for Paper Towns, and scripted by Beef creator Lee Sung Jin, with an initial draft by Black Widow writer Eric Pearson, Thunderbolts boasts a star-studded cast. The lineup includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, and breakout star Ayo Edebiri from The Bear in an undisclosed role.
Originally slated for release on July 26, 2024, Thunderbolts experienced a delay, with the new release date set for July 2025.
Steven Yeun, recently recognized for his performance alongside Ali Wong in Netflix’s Beef, earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Male Actor in a Limited Series. Looking ahead, Steven Yeun is set to feature in Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi thriller Mickey 17, alongside Robert Pattinson, further expanding his diverse and acclaimed body of work.
