The virtual world of Minecraft is set to come to life as production gears up for the Warner Bros/Vertigo/Legendary’s much-anticipated live-action adaptation of Mojang/Microsoft’s blockbuster game. In an exciting development, sources confirm that Jack Black is joining the star-studded cast, led by none other than Jason Momoa.
The plot of the film is currently shrouded in mystery, with writing credits still in the works. However, insiders reveal that Jack Black will be stepping into the role of Steve, adding his signature charm and humor to the Minecraft universe.
Joining Jack Black and Jason Momoa are a talented ensemble cast, including Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen. Minecraft, the sandbox sensation from Mojang/Microsoft, stands as the bestselling video game of all time, boasting a staggering 300 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players.
The Minecraft movie is a collaborative effort from Vertigo, co-financier Legendary, Mojang/Microsoft, and Jason Momoa’s production company, On the Roam. Jared Hess is taking the directorial helm, while the impressive lineup of producers includes Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jason Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui, and the late Jill Messick. Jack Black, fresh off his villainous portrayal of Bowser in the wildly successful The Super Mario Bros Movie, is no stranger to blockbuster hits. Black’s multifaceted talent has also earned him his third Golden Globe nomination for co-writing the film’s love ballad “Peaches,” which he also performed.
In addition to his cinematic successes, Jack Black recently clinched an Emmy for Outstanding Voice Performance in a Children’s or Young Teen Program for Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight.
