The wasteland is set to quake once again as director George Miller returns with the highly anticipated prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road.
Warner Bros. unveiled the thrilling first trailer for Furiosa at Brazil’s biggest Comic-Con event, CCXP, showcasing a high-octane journey across the post-apocalyptic landscape with Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth in the driver’s seat.
In this new chapter of the Mad Max saga, Anya Taylor-Joy boldly steps into the role of Imperator Furiosa, previously portrayed by Charlize Theron.
The trailer captures her transformation, including the iconic moment as she shaves her head, embracing the fierce war captain persona. The narrative follows a young Furiosa torn from the Green Place of Many Mothers, thrust into a sinister world where survival demands more than mere resilience.
Joining the cast alongside Taylor-Joy is Chris Hemsworth, who plays the character Dementos. Hemsworth, speaking at the CCXP event, delved into the complexities of his character, describing him as a “violent, insane, brutal person” shaped by the unforgiving Wasteland. Hemsworth hinted at the character’s manipulative charisma, born out of the necessity to navigate a kill-or-be-killed environment.
The prequel promises to deliver the same visceral action, immersive world-building, and monstrous gas-guzzling vehicles that made Fury Road a global sensation. Miller, the mastermind behind the franchise, directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Nico Lathouris.
Returning collaborators from Fury Road include film editor Margaret Sixel, costume designer Jenny Beavan, and composer Junkie XL. Cinematographer Simon Dugan, taking over from John Seale, will capture the visual splendor of the wasteland in this sequel.
Furiosa is set to storm into theaters on May 24, 2024, and the excitement is amplified with the announcement of an IMAX release. As the trailer unfolds, it promises fans an exhilarating ride into the heart of the Mad Max universe, where chaos reigns, and survival is an art form.
