The highly anticipated eighth Mission: Impossible 8 is facing a delay, with the film’s release date shifted to May 23, 2025.
Paramount Pictures and Skydance has announced the postponement from its initial date of June 28 next year. There is also news of the film getting a title revision, which was originally supposed to be “Dead Reckoning, Part Two.” The updated title is set to be revealed at a later date.
The delay stems from various factors, most notably the writers’ strike in Hollywood that has impacted M:I 8’s as well as other film’s production. The SAG-AFTRA strike commenced in mid-July, preventing the cast from resuming work on the project.
This development also prompted Paramount to make changes to its 2024 release calendar, including shifting the release date of A Quiet Place: Day One by two months. Hollywood’s ongoing labor strife has led to uncertainties, and further reshuffling of release dates for major films is expected if the labor dispute is not resolved in the coming weeks.
Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1, or M:I 7, had a turbulent journey at the box office. Released in July, it grossed $567.5 million globally.
The next installment to the franchise has Tom Cruise reprising his iconic role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt with an ensemble cast that includes Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, and Vanessa Kirby, among others.
Known for its globe-trotting locations and adrenaline-pumping stunts, the M:I franchise originally took flight in 1996, inspired by the 1960s TV show. The film franchise, starring Tom, have consistently featured at least one signature stunt that becomes a focal point of their marketing campaigns.
