In a clear reference to the recent return of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari emphasized the importance of not delaying upcoming elections any further, following the significant events that transpired over the weekend.
Speaking at a ceremony hosted by the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan on Monday, Bilawal, without explicitly naming Nawaz Sharif, stated, “Given the events that we witnessed over the weekend, I trust there shall be no further delay.” He added, “Let us be clear, ladies and gentlemen, elections delayed are elections denied.”
Bilawal advised the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to promptly announce the election schedule without any further delays. He stressed that the only way forward for Pakistan is to ensure that the upcoming elections are free and fair, with all political candidates having an equal and level playing field.
This statement by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari reflects the growing political tensions and concerns over the timing and conduct of elections in Pakistan, particularly in the wake of significant developments that have taken place recently. It highlights the need for a transparent and timely electoral process to ensure the democratic rights of the Pakistani people.
