Former Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the ongoing brutalities committed by Israel against Palestinians.
He is calling for an immediate end to the bombing of civilians, including children and health facilities. Sharif’s impassioned plea for justice and peace was conveyed in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
In his statement, Shahbaz Sharif requests the global community to ensure the implementation of United Nations resolutions and to take quick action to stop what he describes as an ongoing genocide. The situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank has become increasingly dire, with a rising death toll and countless injuries, according to Palestinian health ministry sources. As of the latest reports, the death toll has reached 2,383, with an additional 10,814 Palestinians injured.
Of particular concern is the situation in Gaza, where 2,329 Palestinians, including a quarter of them children, have lost their lives, and 9,714 have been wounded. In the West Bank, 54 fatalities and 1,100 injuries have been recorded since the conflict between Hamas and Israel began on October 7.
Iran’s mission to the United Nations issued a stern warning, stating that if Israel’s “war crimes and genocide” are not immediately halted, the situation could spiral out of control and have far-reaching consequences.
On the international front, U.S. President Biden reiterated his “unwavering” support for Israel and discussed the importance of international coordination to ensure innocent civilians have access to essential resources such as water, food, and medical care.
However, as tensions continue to escalate, Israeli troops are reportedly preparing for a ground attack. Israeli military authorities had previously instructed residents of the northern half of the Gaza Strip, including Gaza City, to relocate to the south immediately. Despite assurances of safety for fleeing Palestinians on specific routes, troops have been massing, raising concerns about the situation’s potential evolution.
The involvement of neighboring nations is also a significant factor. Egypt, the sole Arab state that shares a border with Gaza, and Jordan, which neighbors the Israeli-occupied West Bank, have both warned against Palestinians being forcibly displaced from their land. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi underscored the gravity of the situation, declaring it “the cause of all causes, the cause of all Arabs.”
Shahbaz Sharif’s statement adds to the global chorus of calls for an end to the violence and for urgent humanitarian intervention to aid the Palestinian people. The world watches with bated breath as the situation unfolds, with hopes for a quick resolution that brings peace and justice to the region.
