Today marks the 72nd death anniversary of Pakistan’s first prime minister Liaqat Ali Khan, known as shaheed Millat.
Born in Karnal, East Punjab, Liaquat Ali Khan’s legacy continues to inspire, and his contributions to the nation’s foundation are honored with reverence and reflection.
Liaquat Ali Khan’s educational journey took him from Aligarh Muslim University in India to the blessed halls of Oxford University in the United Kingdom. However, it was not only his academic pursuits but also his unwavering dedication to the cause of an independent homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent that defined his life.
In partnership with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Liaquat Ali Khan played an instrumental role in the struggle to establish a separate nation for Muslims. Their combined efforts and vision culminated in the birth of Pakistan on August 14, 1947, and Liaquat Ali Khan assumed office as the country’s first Prime Minister.
Tragically, Khan Liaquat Ali Khan’s life was cut short when he was assassinated on this very day in 1951 during a public meeting at Company Bagh in Rawalpindi. In his honor, the site was renamed Liaquat Bagh, becoming a place of historical significance and remembrance.
On this occasion, President Dr. Arif Alvi has paid a heartfelt tribute to Quaid-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan, acknowledging his invaluable services to the nation. The President remarked, “This day reminds us of Liaquat Ali Khan’s firm commitment to the cause of Pakistan’s independence and the well-being of its people.” He further highlighted Khan Liaquat Ali Khan’s steadfast support for Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah during the difficult struggle for freedom.
The President emphasized that Liaquat Ali Khan’s vision for a united, democratic, and progressive Pakistan continues to shine as a beacon of light and a source of inspiration for all Pakistanis. His enduring legacy serves as a reminder of the dedication, vision, and sacrifice that were pivotal in the creation of Pakistan and continue to guide the nation’s path toward a brighter future.
