In yet another groundbreaking achievement, Master Changan Motors Ltd (MCML), in collaboration with Changan International, has made history by successfully exporting the first batch of 14 Oshan X7 SUVs to Kenya. These vehicles are destined for sale in both the Kenyan and Tanzanian markets. Notably, this makes Master Changan the very first company in Pakistan to achieve high-volume exports of technologically advanced SUVs produced in the country.
The Oshan X7, proudly labeled as ‘Made in Pakistan,’ is set to become the first SUV to be launched in international markets, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s automotive industry. This achievement holds particular significance as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), highlighting the deep economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.
An export ceremony took place in Karachi to mark this momentous occasion. Mr. Danial Malik, the CEO of Master Changan, expressed, “We are taking our next major step to achieve our vision of making Master Changan a part of Changan’s global vehicle supply chain under the ‘Vast Ocean Plan,’ while putting Pakistan on the map for producing and exporting high-quality vehicles to the world. Kenya and Tanzania are just the beginning of our journey to leave a mark in many countries as we aim to expand our export volumes.”
Earlier this year, at the 2023 Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, Mr. Zhu Huarong, Chairman of Changan Automobile, unveiled the ‘Vast Ocean’ plan, a strategic initiative to accelerate the company’s global expansion and establish itself as a world-class brand. Under this plan, Changan Automobile has committed to investing US$10 billion in the overseas market, with a focus on intelligent low-carbon core technology. The aim is to expand Changan’s global presence to regions including Europe, America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and the CIS, covering 90% of global markets by 2030. As the Right-Hand Drive (RHD) manufacturing hub for Changan, Master Changan Pakistan plays a pivotal role in Changan’s ‘Vast Ocean’ plan to cater to RHD markets worldwide.
It’s important to note that the export of ‘Made in Pakistan’ vehicles relies on the Federal Government’s policies to promote and incentivize the automotive industry.
The auto industry has already submitted proposals to the government to make auto exports a sustainable long-term venture. Danial Malik expressed gratitude for the government’s Auto Export Policy 2021-2026 and underscored the need for policies that foster increased local production, enhance economies of scale, support deeper localization, and bolster the global competitiveness of automakers.
The Oshan X7, which spearheads this achievement, is the largest SUV in its segment, boasting impressive dimensions. It is powered by a highly efficient 1.5L turbocharged engine, delivering a fuel efficiency of 14-15 kmpl and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.23 seconds. Beyond its impressive performance, the Oshan X7 features a contemporary design, luxurious interior, and state-of-the-art features including Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, heated and vented seats, and a versatile 5/7 seat layout, catering to a wide range of preferences and needs.
Master Changan’s pioneering export venture sets a remarkable precedent for Pakistan’s automotive industry, fostering global recognition and elevating the nation’s standing as a manufacturer of high-quality vehicles for international markets.
