In a firm effort to combat electricity theft, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has achieved significant milestones, identifying an astounding 407 illegal power connections in a single day.
These operations are being conducted under the explicit directives of the Federal Power Division, with the personal oversight of LESCO’s Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Shahid Haider, who has expressed solid commitment to the eradication of electricity theft.
LESCO’s campaign is not limited to capturing electricity thieves alone; it also extends to addressing any complicity within the company itself. As part of this comprehensive approach, LESCO has initiated strict actions against employees and officers involved in facilitating such illegal activities.
On the 31st consecutive day of this anti-power theft campaign, it was revealed that even substantial agricultural and commercial consumers were implicated in these unlawful practices. In response, LESCO swiftly disconnected these connections and subjected them to detection units, accompanied by substantial penalties.
Moreover, LESCO has imposed substantial fines on those found guilty of electricity pilferage. For example, a customer on Davis Road in Lahore faced a fine of Rs. 4.928 million for unauthorized consumption of 88,000 units, while another customer in the Saleem Garden area of Shahdara was fined Rs. 1.1 million for 13,825 units of stolen electricity.
During the 31-day duration of the anti-theft campaign, LESCO has successfully identified power theft on 14,690 connections and filed FIRs against 14,556 individuals involved. Law enforcement authorities have apprehended 4,791 accused individuals to date, and LESCO has quantified a total of 30,985,410 detection units, equivalent to Rs. 1,373,010,597 billion in value.
LESCO’s strong commitment to combat electricity theft stands as a testament to its dedication to ensuring fair and lawful distribution of electrical power in the region.
